Hello friends and family -I am here today on a Saturday because we have come again to the holiday where all of South America decides to take a break from working so that they can splash water on everyone in the streets and throw eggs and paint on everyone! So my wise mission president has told us it would be better to stay inside the house on Monday and Tuesday haha! But don't worry, next year I will teach you all how to play. I'll make the holiday a Utah thing as well.
This week was really good! Everyone here is starting to pull their corn out of the fields and grind it up in their houses. We were walking past a family this week that all of them were outside working and we decided to talk to them. After talking for a while, we asked if we could help them. They accepted and we went to work on the grinder, throwing corn into the grinder and working it by hand haha! During the whole time, we were talking a lot to the father. When we first contacted him, he wasn't all that interested, but as we came down and worked with him, he started asking a lot more questions. When we finished, he told us that we had to come back later that night to eat humitas (tamales) and drink coffee!! We accepted but we told him we were going to invite the family to drink coke because we don't drink coffee haha! That night we talked a lot to the family and got to know them real well! At the end, we gave the dad a Book of Mormon and told him that we wanted him to read the introduction and that we were going to come back again a different day to explain it. He said he would love to read and hear more about it. This experience has helped me think a lot about how service can really bless the lives of people.
I invite all of you this week to be ready to give service to anyone! You can be the one that softens the heart of somebody by helping them! Be ready to receive the gospel!
